Carl Maria von Weber was one of the first significant composers of the Romantic era, and his late Classical-early Romantic influences can be clearly heard in the more predictable tonalities but unpredictable rhythms of his Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet. The work is mostly bright and cheerful, and features more freeform clarinet lines executed in a mischievous, playful manner.
