The use of minor tonality is not as frequent as one might expect in a piece titled Sonata in B Flat Minor - cheery major tonality is definitely a major player as well. The first and second movements are full of detached, energetic melodies, while the piano exudes peace and tranquility in the third movement. The fourth movement combines the rigor of the first and second movement with the elongated feel of the third movement.
